Lorenzo Lotto (ital. Lorenzo Lotto, 1480-1556) - one of the greatest Venetian painters. Unable to compromise in the works, and in the spiritual, Lorenzo Lotto lived troubled lives and often experience financial difficulties. Not adjusting to the prevailing tastes Lotto traveled in search of customers who could understand and appreciate his work. After a brief period of success, he was forgotten and ridiculed in Venice. At the end of the XIX century (1895) Lotto was reopened to the public art historian Bernard Berenson. According Berenson: "To understand the sixteenth century, Lotto learn is as important as to know Titian."

Among other works Lotto devoted religious subjects, - a large painting "The Holy Family with St. Catherine of Alexandria» (Sacra Famiglia con santa Caterina d'Alessandria) (1533), written, but not for the church, but as a way of praying for a private individual .
